Senechal’s AnimalSign® Center is a ranch facility in the Monterey area where language research, teaching, and education of people and animals are based.

The Center houses animals such as dogs and horses, and has facilities to hold classes and research its animals. We plan additional educational offers for dogs, horses, and their companions.

How did this begin? It began as an idea and desire to communicate with a horse Princess! Language and education methods were needed and created. Senechal devised these and started teaching her horse, then dog.

The uses for companion and service dogs were evident, so Senechal expanded and made this available for others to learn.

The Language:

AnimalSign® Language is a gestural language that was made for the animal body. It is a set of gestures that specific animals can learn and physically make to communicate.

The language is composed of specifically designed set of gestures for head, ears, feet, tail, and body, etc. movements.

The language is both a tool to study the potential of language development in animals, as well as a means of enriching the communication and bonding between animals and people.

AnimalSign® has sublanguage versions and types:

EquineSign™ for horses

K9Sign™ for dogs.

For language types similar to human ASL, the K9ASL™ and EquineASL™ types are used.
